Mordecai and Severus.

I figured drawing Severus with a broken heart seemed interesting. In my head, I've always imagined the Slytherins making up a rock band. Rookwood the drummer, Rozier for special effects and costume design, Mordecai the bassist, Lucius: electric guitar, and Severus the vocals, piano, and harp (oooh...multi-talent). The only way Severus would ever have the guts to reveal his hidden talents would be if Lily Evans was in the crowd, just to try and impress her, win a second of eye contact with her. Desperately hoping she would fall in love with him, Severus would win her heart by performing in a musical talent show. But he wouldn't even have thought of Sirius and the other group with musical skill...so when James Potter would perform after the Slytherin band, Lily's heart would leap out of Severus', and smother James with affection. Why? She hated him. He was so mean to Severus that she defended him.........were her feelings so strong against him that they totally capsized into head-over-heels crazy love for him? It wouldn't be fair....if Severus would sing for her but never win her love.

"I'm such a fool," Severus said quietly. He tried to laugh. A smirk emerged.

But she knew better. Her hand stroked the side of his youthful skin; she felt the tear-streaks along his cheek and attempted to wipe them away, but the more she touched him, the more he realized how much pain he felt. The tears kept falling and the nerves began to shake. Severus felt the choking emotions rushing up through his neck, bursting from his heart. He grabbed Mordecai's arm in one startling motion and heaved her closer for a sobbing embrace. The shaking did not cease. And the cries that escaped his lips mingled in her hair. What was she to do? Upon the cold cobblestone wall, where no one could see them save the creatures of the sea, she held him until there was no more energy in him to burn.

Lily Evans broke his heart. Intentional or not. Mordecai looked over Severus' trembling shoulder, through the walls of the castle, up the stairs to the female tower where that girl slept, and glared. In that intimidating gaze, she vowed to pay Evans in kind. She promised to bring misery and embarrassment to her perfect, happy little world.

Severus sobbed. And never stopped until the moon faded behind stormy clouds.
